Police have arrested a Tati League leader for his alleged involvement in killing a student after firing gunshots at the student-people movement.
The arrestee is Sutrapur Thana Tati League President Md Abu Sayeed, 59.
Police arrested him in the Sutrapur thana area around 10:15pm on Thursday.
Detectives had found involvement of Sayeed in the killing of student Nadimul Hasan Elem.
A murder case was filed with Sutrapur police station on September 1.
The case statement says protesters brought out processions supporting the anti-discrimination student movement in front of Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul Government College on July 19.
Suddenly, leaders and activists from the Awami League’s front and associate bodies attacked the processions and opened fire on the protesters.
Shaikh Burhanuddin Post Graduate College student Nadimul Hasan Elem who took part in the procession suffered critical injuries in the attack.
He was rushed to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital where the on-duty physicians pronounced him dead.
