Mohammad Ikramul Haque Sajid, a student of the Accounting and Information Systems department from the 2018-19 batch at Jagannath University, passed away while undergoing treatment.

He died at 2:15pm at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Wednesday.

This information was confirmed by the university's Treasurer, Professor Dr Muhammad Humayun Kabir Chowdhury.

It is reported that during a student protest against discrimination on August 4, Sajid was shot in the back of the head in the Mirpur 2 area.

The bullet penetrated his head and got lodged behind his eye. He was rushed to the hospital immediately.

Due to the severe nature of the injury, he underwent surgery, but his condition remained critical.

Despite being on life support for over eight days, there was no improvement in his condition.

Following Sajid's death, students of the university staged a protest demanding justice.

They chanted slogans such as "Smash the fascist stronghold," "Tear it down," "Two-zero-two-four," "Fascism no more," "Justice, justice, justice," and "We demand justice for the killer Hasina."

The treasurer expressed sorrow over Sajid's death, said that the situation was dire and expressed sympathy for his family, wondering how they would cope with the loss.

Student Shahin Alam San said: "We cannot let our brother's blood go in vain. We demand justice for those responsible for Sajid's death. We will continue our protest until justice is served."

On August 4, in Mirpur-10, Awami League's youth and student wings, led by MP Maulvi Hossain Nikhil, former MP Ismail Mollah, MP Kamal Ahmed Mojumdar, and local Awami League Secretary MA Mannan, along with other local councilors, attacked the student protesters.

They had begun stockpiling arms and ammunition at Adarsha High School from August 3.

On August 4, starting from 11am, they stored weapons at a police box in Mirpur-10.

When students began gathering in front of Ideal Girls College at noon, the Awami League thugs attacked them with heavy firearms.

Police joined in the shooting, which continued until 4pm.
