A mother and her daughter were killed in a stabbing following a family dispute in Dhaka's Kalabagan area on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at around 9:30am.
Police detained Farzana's husband, Hridoy, also known as Shipon, 30, in connection with the incident.
The deceased were identified as Farzana Begum, also known as Ratri, 20, and her mother, Firoza Begum, 38.
According to police, Hridoy and Farzana were arguing over a family dispute when Firoza intervened on her daughter's behalf. Hridoy then allegedly stabbed both women.
Farzana died at the scene. Firoza was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared her dead.
Kalabagan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Fazle Ashiq said Hridoy had been taken into custody and was being questioned.
Regarding the incident, Fazle Ashik said: “Preliminary information suggests that the husband and wife attended a program in Mohammadpur on Saturday. Hridoy later went to his in-laws' house with his wife Farzana at night. The incident occurred this morning following an argument between the husband and wife.”
Police said Hridoy and Farzana are from Shariatpur.
An investigation is underway to determine further details of the incident, police said.
