The toll rates for vehicles accessing the Dhaka Elevated Expressway have been officially disclosed by the government.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader made the announcement at a press conference on Sunday.
As outlined in a press release, the toll charges are as follows: cars, taxis, jeeps, SUVs, microbuses (with fewer than 16 seats) and light trucks (under three tons) will have to pay Tk80 to use the expressway.
Medium-sized trucks (up to six wheels) will have to pay a toll of Tk320, while trucks with more than six wheels will incur a charge of Tk400.
Additionally, all types of buses with 16 seats or more will need to pay Tk160 to access the expressway.
After over a decade since the project started, a significant section of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway will open for traffic in September.
The 11-kilometre stretch from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Farmgate, passing through Kuril, Banani, Mohakhali and Tejgaon, will become operational, offering an alternative route to and from Airport Road, which is one of the city's busiest thoroughfares.
The remaining portion of the expressway, covering 19.73km, is anticipated to become accessible to the public next year.
Notably, this expressway marks the country's first of its kind and is expected to provide significant relief to commuters.
