Vehicle movement has increased significantly on the Dhaka–Tangail highway ahead of Eid travel rush. A total of 34,966 vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge in the past 24 hours, generating toll revenue of over Tk 3.24 crore.
Syed Riaz Uddin, executive engineer of the Jamuna Bridge site office, confirmed the information on Saturday afternoon.
According to bridge authorities, from 12:00 am on Thursday to 12:00 am on Friday, 34,966 vehicles crossed the bridge during the 24-hour period. Of them, 18,859 northbound vehicles crossed the bridge, generating toll revenue of over Tk 1.70 crore.
On the other hand, 16,107 vehicles traveling toward Dhaka crossed the bridge during the period, generating Tk 1.54 crore in toll collection.
Executive Engineer Syed Riaz Uddin said that to manage the Eid travel pressure, a total of 18 booths — nine on each side of the bridge — have been opened for toll collection. In addition, two separate booths on each side have been designated for motorcycles.
Since the bridge opened in 1998, the authorities have continuously collected tolls from vehicles using the bridge. In previous years, toll collection was managed by Computer Network Systems (CNS). However, since late 2024, following a change in government administration, toll collection has been operated by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).
