Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq stated that if the rally cannot be held at Golapbagh, BNP will have to submit a new application, and a decision will be made based on the prevailing situation.
He made this statement on Wednesday night.
The DMP commissioner clarified: "No permission will be granted for a meeting in Naya Paltan. They will need to apply again even if they wish to hold it on weekends."
"If the BNP does not conduct the rally at Golapbagh on Thursday, we will engage in further discussions with the party before reaching a decision," he added.
He emphasized that there is anxiety among the general public, which is caused by BNP. Any attempts to hold gatherings without permission and create chaos will be dealt with strictly.
"We have not granted permission to any party for a rally thus far. We are closely monitoring the situation. DMP has taken all necessary measures to prevent any anarchic or chaotic situation in Dhaka," he further stated.
The BNP initially sought permission to hold a rally in either Naya Paltan or Suhrawardy Udyan on Thursday to demand a one-point demand for the next parliamentary elections under a neutral government. However, the DMP commissioner advised them to conduct the rally at the Golapbagh ground. Subsequently, BNP announced that they will hold a rally in Naya Paltan on Friday following a party meeting.
