Police believe National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary should be questioned over his recent remarks concerning a series of crude bomb explosions in different parts of the capital.
Mohammad Tofail Ahmed Mia, joint commissioner (Crime Prevention-South) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), made the comment at a press conference on the recovery of explosives and masks at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road on Friday afternoon.
Asked about Patwary’s comments, the police official said: “I think he should be questioned.”
Following a recent protest procession in the capital, Patwary said that there would be no more explosions in Dhaka if the government accepted the party’s three main demands.
Referring to the statement, journalists asked whether the recent crude bomb explosions were being carried out only by leaders and activists of banned organisations or whether others were also involved.
Tofail Ahmed said Patwary should be questioned about why he made such a statement.
“I think he should definitely be questioned,” he said.
Asked whether police could question Patwary, the joint commissioner said the matter would have to be decided by senior officials.
Earlier, police arrested a man and recovered explosives, materials used to make cocktails and 9,000 paper masks allegedly prepared for criminal purposes during a raid in South Keraniganj.
The arrested man was identified as Jahid Hasan Emon. The operation was conducted by police from Shyampur Model Police Station.
