The fire which broke out at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) building was doused nearly half an hour after the incident on Monday.
No casualties were reported, fire officials said.
Mohammad Shahjahan Shikder, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence control room, said the fire broke out on the 13th floor of the 17-storey D-block building around 6:21pm and it spread soon.
"Five fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flame fully around 6:45pm," Shahjahan added.
However, what caused the fire could not be known immediately.
