The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has pressed charges against 15, including two teenagers, in a case lodged over the brutal killing of Taslima Begum Renu in a mob beating in North Badda area in the capital.
The investigation officer of the case submitted the charge sheet in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka on Thursday, DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Walid Hossain confirmed the matter.
He said there were 19 accused involved in the murder case. Of them, 14 had been arrested and one was absconding. Three of the arrested made confessional statements in court.

The other four accused could not be charged as it was not possible to collect their full names and addresses. So police have filed a charge sheet accusing 15 people, he added.
If it is possible to collect the names and addresses of the acquitted accused involved in the incident or to arrest them, a supplementary charge sheet would be filed in court, Walid Hossain mentioned.
The deputy commissioner said that the accused in the charge sheet were Md Ibrahim alias Hridoy Hossain Mollah, 20, Riya Begum alias Moyna Begum, 29, Md Abul Kalam Azad alias Azad Mandal, 50, Md Kamal Hossain, 40, Md Shahin, 32, Md Bachchu Mia, 36, Md Bappi alias Shahidul Islam, 21, Md Murad Mia, 26, Md Sohel Rana, 30, Asadul Islam, 22, Md Billal Mollah, 32, and Md Raju alias Rumman Hossain, 23.
The fugitive accused in the charge sheet is Md Mohiuddin, 18, he added.

The juvenile accused in the charge sheet are Md Zafar Hossain Patwari, 17, and Wasim alias Md Asim Ahmed, 14. Separate charges had been filed against the two accused as they were minors, the police official said.
On July 20, 2019, Renu, 40, a single mother of two, was beaten to death by a mob on unfounded suspicions of being a kidnapper, in front of North Badda Government Primary School.
Later, Syed Nasir Uddin Titu, the victim’s nephew, filed a murder case against 400 to 500 unidentified persons with Badda police station.
