Three people, including two who suffered gunshot wounds, were injured in separate shooting and stabbing incidents in the capital’s Badda area on Monday night.
The injured were identified as Md Al-Amin, 25, and Saiful Islam, 23, who sustained gunshot wounds, and Abdullah, 16, a school student who was stabbed.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Selim Hossain of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost confirmed the incidents and said the injured received treatment at DMCH on Monday night.
Kawsar Tarek, Abdullah’s maternal uncle, said Abdullah and several friends were passing by Alatunnesa School in Badda around 10pm when unidentified assailants stabbed him on the street.
“I heard there had been a clash between two groups there shortly before the incident. Later, members of one group attacked people they encountered on the street,” he said.
Abdullah, an SSC examinee, is a student at a local school and lives in Madhya Badda.
Earlier, Al-Amin was shot during a clash between two groups in the area. His friend Russell, who took him to the hospital, said Al-Amin lives behind Alatunnesa School.
Al-Amin was shot in the right knee while passing through the area and was later rescued and taken to hospital.
Around 11pm, Saiful Islam, a refrigerator mechanic, was shot in the leg in an alley near Merul Badda Bazar.
Saiful, who lives at Mondal residence in the Badda Bazar area, was returning home when two helmeted assailants attempted to stop him.
As he tried to flee, they allegedly fired at him from behind, hitting him in the leg.
A neighbour, Mohan Gazi, rescued him and took him to hospital.
Badda police station Duty Officer SI Md Abu Zafar said two incidents occurred within the station’s jurisdiction and that legal proceedings had been initiated.
“Police officers are working on the cases, and efforts are underway to arrest those involved,” he said.
