Police have detained three people in connection with the lynching of a woman in mob beating in Dhaka’s Badda area.

They were detained after reviewing video footage of the mob beating incident, the police said.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Sunday night, Badda police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafikul Islam said: “The detainees are being interrogated at the moment.”

The detainees are Bappi, Jafor and Shahin.

On Saturday, the woman was killed by locals, while attempting to enter a school in Badda area of Dhaka.

The deceased, Taslima Begum Renu, 40, lived with her daughter in Mohakhali.

Her nephew, Syed Nasir Uddin Titu, while identifying the victim to the police said: “My aunt [Taslima] was divorced and was living with her son. She visited the school to seek information about admissions and they [the mob] killed her. What were the police doing? I want justice for her death.”

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Assistant Commissioner (Badda zone) Elin Chowdhury told Dhaka Tribune: "A woman tried to enter a government primary school in Badda area around 9am on Saturday. The guardians thrashed the woman, suspecting her to be a kidnapper. Later, she was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the duty doctor declared her dead."
