Kurmitola General Hospital soon to treat Covid-19 patients only

There have been multiple reports of patients, despite showing symptoms of coronavirus, being refused by different hospitals in Dhaka including Kurmitola General Hospital.

Dhaka’s Kurmitola General Hospital will start treating coronavirus patients only in the next couple of days.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Kurmitola General Hospital Director Brig Gen Jamil Ahmed on Wednesday, said: “For the last few days we had a mixed approach – treating both general and covid-19 positive patients – for providing treatment. 

“But from the next couple of days, we will only treat Covid-19 patients, both positive and suspected.”

Meanwhile, Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) Director (hospitals) Aminul Hasan, said: “We have already given directives to Kurmitola General Hospital in this regard.

“The hospital will start solely treating coronavirus patients in the next few days as there is an issue regarding the general patients undergoing medication there.” 

However, there have been multiple reports of patients, despite showing symptoms of coronavirus, being refused by different hospitals in Dhaka including Kurmitola General Hospital.

In one instance, an elderly person aged around 50 with Covid-19 symptoms, died at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital early Thursday after being reportedly rejected by Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Kurmitola General Hospital.

However, authorities concerned have collected samples of the deceased for testing. 

When contacted, Dr Uttam Kumar Barua, director of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, said: “There should be one dedicated hospital which will accept and treat suspected coronavirus patients.”
