The wife of an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official died at a hospital in Dhaka last morning, a day after she allegedly set herself on fire.
Tania Ishrat, 43, wife of ACC Director Mohammad Yousuf, breathed her last at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) around 10:50am while undergoing treatment.
The incident took place around 7:30pm on Wednesday, confirmed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Assistant Commissioner (airport zone) Khondokar Rezaul Hasan.
Quoting Tania's family members, police said she committed suicide by lighting herself on fire.
Her body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy, Rezaul added.
"We are still investigating the matter to find out whether she committed suicide or not," he said.
The deceased's husband was popular on social media. He played a significant role in bringing back discipline by removing irregularities practiced at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Arman Hossain, younger brother of the deceased said that his sister was psychologically imbalanced from her childhood.
"We also admitted her to a mental hospital. And she attempted to commit suicide several times," he said.
On Wednesday, Tania had a quarrel with her child after returning home said her brother adding: "Later, she locked her room and set herself on fire."
Just after the incident, Tania's husband and son rushed her to CMH, he added.
