A motorcyclist, Md Kawsar Ahmed, was killed after being hit by a police wrecker on Hanif Flyover in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area.
The incident occurred late Saturday night. Kawsar worked as an accountant at Ad-din Hospital.
After the accident, he was rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 3am, where doctors declared him dead.
Jatrabari Police Station’s Inspector (Investigation) Kazi Ramjanul Haque said on Sunday that another wrecker was deployed to seize the offending vehicle and that Kawsar had been taken to DMCH.
He added that the driver of the wrecker fled the scene, and no formal complaint has been filed yet. Legal action will be taken once a complaint is lodged.
Kawsar’s elder brother, Md Uzzal Ahmed, said that Kawsar was returning home to Khilgaon Sipahi Bagh on his motorcycle after finishing work at Ad-din Hospital’s Postgola branch when a police wrecker struck him from behind on Hanif Flyover.
Locals rescued him and transported him to DMCH via CNG auto-rickshaw, where he was pronounced dead.
Kawsar, son of Md Zaynal Abedin of Nagarbari Road under Dakshinkhan Thana, was the youngest of two brothers. He lived in Khilgaon Sipahi Bagh due to his job and is survived by his wife, Momtaz Akter.
