A Dhaka court has sent to jail the two sons of the owner of Haji Wahed Mansion, from where the devastating Chawkbazar fire originated and killed 71 people on the night of February 20, after they surrendered before it.
Metropolitan Magistrate Qaisarul Islam on Tuesday sent Md Hasan and Md Sohel alias Shahid to jail after rejecting their bail plea, reports BSS.
The brothers with their lawyer surrendered before the court and pleaded again for bail, as the tenure of their three-week bail granted by the High Court has ended.
The state, however, opposed their plea. After hearing both the sides, the court rejected the bail plea and sent the duo to jail.
A High Court bench on March 11 granted the siblings bail for three weeks, asking them to cooperate with investigation officer of the case filed over the deadly blaze.

The High Court at that time had asked them to surrender before lower court once their bail period was over.
On February 20, the deadly fire had ravaged several multi-storey buildings housing shops and chemical and plastic warehouses on Nanda Kumar Lane at Chawkbazar’s Churihatta intersection.
Apart from killing 70 people, the fire had left scores of others with severe injuries.
Last week, Wahed Mansion owner Md Hasan had also reportedly threatened Md Azam, the owner of Rajmahal Hotel from where CCTV footage of the fire was collected.
The CCTV camera footage from Azam’s restaurant, which went viral on the internet, showed the massive fire had originated on the first floor of Wahed Mansion.
