A sculpture commemorating the supreme sacrifice of two police officials during the terror attack at Holey Artisan Bakery has been unveiled in Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia inaugurated the sculpture Dipto Shopoth on the Old Gulshan police station premises in Gulshan Avenue on Sunday.
Family members of assistant commissioner of DB police Rabiul Karim and then Banani police station’s officer-in-charge Salauddin Khan, who were shot dead trying to rescue hostages during the attack, placed floral wreaths at the sculpture.
The DMP chief said the charge sheet into the case would be submitted to the court this week.
On July 1, 2016, five militants entered Holey Artisan Bakery, held hostages, and killed 20 people, mostly foreigners.
Army commandos stormed the restaurant the next morning, killing the terrorists and rescuing the surviving hostages.
A case was filed with Gulshan police station on July 4, 2016, and the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of police took charge of the investigation.
Police found 21 people involved in the attack, starting from the planning, preparation and execution. Of them, 13, including the attackers, are dead.
