Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained three suspected militants of New Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh’s (New JMB) “Sarwar-Tamim group” from Narayanganj’s Fatullah area on Saturday.
The detainees are Waliullah Chisti alias Joni alias Mohammad alias Abu Omor, 27, Al-Amin Sheikh alias Rajib alias Rajib Islam Sheikh alias Sheikh, 25, and Kamrul Hasan alias Hridoy, 37.
When contacted, RAB 11 Commanding Officer Kamrul Hasan said they in an overnight raid in the area nabbed the trio when they along with other members of their group were holding a secret meeting on Saturday.
During the raid, the rest members of the outfit managed to escape detention though. A foreign pistol, a foreign revolver, five bullets, two knives, explosives, jihadi books and leaflets were also seized from the scene.
According to Kamrul, the trio primarily confessed to their connection with the militant group. Of them, Waliullah Chisti and Al-Amin had already been sued for terrorist activities.
“They [New JMB members] were plotting sabotage in the meeting with one of their top leaders. Sensing our presence, they scattered in different groups, but we managed to detain the trio,” he said.
Waliullah stopped studying in 2007 when he was a student of a degree (pass) student. Later he began following the ideology of fundamentalist group, Ansarullah Bangla Team, in 2012. He finally went for ‘hijrat’ two years later, the RAB official said.
Meanwhile, Al-Amin left his under-graduation course in 2013 and gradually linked to militancy through a Bagerhat imam.
Hridoy, who studied till fifth grade in Comilla, worked as an apparel worker. He was introduced to militancy in 2012, and finally joined in the crime in 2015.
