Update : 15 Mar 2017, 09:09 PM
Jannat Ara Parveen Rini, sister of sub-inspector Akram Hossain Liton who was reported to have been killed in a motorcycle accident, has met with the investigation officer of Mitu murder case to convey her suspicions about Mitu's husband Babul Akter's involvement in Akram's death. The meeting took place at the headquarters of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) on Wednesday. Rini was seen arriving at the CMP headquarters with a family member around 10:30am, according to sources. She met the investigation officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Kamruzzaman of the Detective Branch, around 12:40pm and spoke with him for nearly an hour, the sources said. Speaking to reporters outside the CMP office after the meeting, Rini said she had shared her suspicions about former superintendent of police Babul Akter's involvement in her brother's death, which was framed as an accident. She claimed that Mitu and Akram were both killed due to an illicit relationship between Babul and Akram's wife Bonani Bashir Bonni.

“We could not file any case on Akram's murder because of Babul's influence. The incident was dubbed as an accident,” she added. Rini said the truth of Akram's murder would come out if Babul and Bonni were interrogated. “We have come here to demand justice for my brother.” Kamruzzaman told reporters that Rini had shared her suspicions with him. “They came here to talk to me about Babul, and I listened to them. For the sake of the investigation, I cannot reveal what they said at the moment,” he added.Earlier in February, Rini and her family held a press conference at Jhenaidah Press Club demanding Babul's arrest for plotting Akram's death. She claimed that Babul's cousin Sademul Islam Moon had executed the murder planned by Babul and Bonni, who supposedly had extramarital relationship. Akram was severely wounded when miscreants attacked him with sharp weapons in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah on December 28, 2014. He succumbed to his injuries on January 13, 2015 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Babul's wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, 32, was stabbed and shot dead in front of her son near her home at the GEC intersection in Chittagong city on June 5 last year. Mitu's family initially said they did not believe that Babul was involved in Mitu's murder. However, in February, Mitu's father Md Mosharraf Hossain said they were beginning to think that Babul might be involved in the murder, considering the overall circumstance and the development in the investigation.
