A Chittagong court has granted permission for the jail-gate interrogation of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of the Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote, in connection with the attack and vandalism of police personnel within the court premises.

On Monday, Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin Mahmud of the sixth court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistracy issued the order following a hearing on a petition filed by the investigation officer of the case.

Earlier, on June 4, the investigating officer, Assistant Commissioner Mostafa Kamal of the North Zone of Chittagong Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB), submitted an application seeking court approval to interrogate Chinmoy Krishna at the jail gate in connection with the case filed at Kotwali police station.

Assistant Public Prosecutor of Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Advocate Md Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury said: “The court has allowed the jail-gate interrogation of Chinmoy Krishna Das in a vandalism case under Kotwali police station, as per the investigation officer’s request."

He added: "The court has also instructed the submission of a report by June 22."

On November 29, last year, Khane Alam, brother of slain lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, filed a case accusing several individuals of assaulting lawyers, causing explosions, and committing acts of vandalism.

Previously, on October 25, 2024, a major rally of the Sanatoni community was held in Chittagong under the leadership of Chinmoy Krishna Das.

Subsequently, on October 31, a sedition case was filed against him on charges of desecrating the national flag, in which 18 other individuals were also accused.

Another large rally, led by Chinmoy, was held in Rangpur on November 22.

Following that, on November 25, Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested in Dhaka in connection with the sedition case.

The following day, his bail plea was denied, and the Chittagong Metropolitan magistrate ordered him to be sent to prison.

Tensions escalated in Chittagong on the day of his court appearance, when a clash broke out between his followers and law enforcement personnel, including lawyers.

During the incident, lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was fatally attacked outside the court premises.

Since then, Chinmoy has remained in custody. In the aftermath of the incident, Alif’s father filed a murder case with Kotwali police station.
