At least 38 drug dealers have been arrested from various parts of the country on Saturday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) during an anti-narcotics drive have arrested 27 people from city’s Bihari camp in Pallabi area for taking and selling illegal drugs.
“A special team of the DMP, including Pallabi police station, Detective Branch, Special Armed Police and Dog squad conducted drives at Kalshi and Bihari camps of Mirpur 11 and Mirpur 10 at around 10 am and continued until 12:00 pm,” said Officer-in-Charge of Pallabi police station Dadan Fakir, reports UNB.
“During the drives, police arrested 27 people for taking and selling illegal drugs and recovered 2,150 pieces of yaba pills, 674 grams heroin, six kg of marijuana, and 60 litres local wines from their possessions,” the OC added.
In Rangpur, police claimed to have arrested seven drug dealers from Chargach Municipality area.
This was however a failed operation as the main targets escaped in advance.
The main yaba dealers escaped in advance as they already knew about the block raid.
Around 500 police men participated in this huge failed operation and recovered 1kg of hemp, 102 pieces of yaba tablets and seven bottles of foreign alcohol.
There were frustrations among some police officials about this failed operation.
“Cases have been filed under the Drug Act against the arrested drug dealers and they are under interrogation,” said OC (investigation) of Kaunia police station Abdul Aziz.
In Barisal, a mother and son have been arrested with marijuana in their possession.
Kotwali Police raided Amanatganj area’s Sharif Manzil lane and arrested Parvin Begum, 40 and her son Omar Hawladar, 20.
“Around 500 grams of weed were seized and a case was filed against them under the Drug Control Act,” said SI Mohiuddin Kotwali Police.
In Sirajganj, two people were arrested with 4800 pieces of yaba tablets in their possession.
The contraband tablets were smuggled inside beauty cream containers through Sundarban Courier Service.
Those who arrested were Md Abdul Jalil, 35, son of late Younus Ali of Mirpur SB Fazlul Huq area of Sirajganj and son of late Abdullah Sarker Md Al Amin, 45, of Chakaddas area.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sirajganj Md Mirajuddin Ahmed have confirmed the news through a press conference.
The seized tablets were smuggled through from Chittagong inside 24 plastic cream containers.
The detainees confessed to the police that the owners of these tablets are Moniruzzaman Labu Biswas son of late Abdul Kuddus of SB Fazlul Huq road of Sirajganj.
