A Dhaka court on Friday ordered three accused to be sent to jail in a case filed over the assault of a motorcyclist in Kafrul, Dhaka.
The accused are Md Parvez, Anwar Hossain Babu and Md Faisal, also known as Kalu.
Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Hasibur Rahman of Kafrul Police Station produced the three accused before the court and sought their detention in jail custody.
Sub-Inspector Md Wazed Ali of the prosecution department said bail petitions were filed for Parvez and Babu, but the court rejected them. There was no bail petition for Faisal. The court then ordered all three accused to be sent to jail.
Earlier on Thursday, police arrested Parvez from an India-bordering area under Dhobaura Police Station in Mymensingh and Babu from the Ibrahimpur area. RAB-4 arrested Faisal during a drive in the Kafrul area.
A video titled “Motorcycle snatched after striking the driver on the head” circulated on social media.
At around 1:20 am on Tuesday, the victim, Rafi, was returning home on a motorcycle when he reached the Ibrahimpur area under Kafrul Police Station.
There, attackers allegedly hit the right side of his head with a brick over a previous enmity, leaving him severely injured and causing him to fall from the motorcycle onto the road.
Rafi’s uncle, Noor Hossain Chowdhury, filed a case with Kafrul Police Station on Friday on charges of attempted murder.
After the arrests, RAB said in a press release that the attackers had a dispute with Rafi, who drove a motorcycle for business, and had argued with him a few days earlier.
A RAB official said, “On the night of the incident, Rafi was riding alone. Kalu, Parvez and their associates were sitting on the road. Seeing Rafi alone, they tried to stop him. When Kalu failed to stop him, Parvez, who was standing a little ahead, struck him on the head with a piece of brick. The biker fell and suffered a serious head injury. Later, the accused took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery.”
RAB said police later recovered the abandoned motorcycle from the Kafrul area late Tuesday.
