A Dhaka court has placed Water Development Board Additional Chief Engineer Sabibur Rahman and his wife Farah Nusrat on a two-day remand in connection with a case over the alleged murder of a child domestic worker, Rikta Moni, who was reportedly thrown from a residential building in Dhanmondi.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ismail passed the order on Saturday after hearing a remand petition filed by the investigation officer.
Sub-Inspector Md Shahnewaz Bappy of Dhanmondi Model Police Station, who is also the investigation officer, produced the accused before the court and sought a 10-day remand for interrogation.
The prosecution opposed the bail petitions filed by the defence, arguing in favour of custodial interrogation, while defence lawyers sought bail and cancellation of the remand prayer.
After hearing both sides, the court granted a two-day remand for each accused.
Police said the incident occurred around 6:00 am on Friday at a residential building on Road 9/A in Dhanmondi.
Upon receiving information, police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.
Following the incident, the victim’s father Md Shahin filed a murder case with Dhanmondi Model Police Station.
Rikta Moni hailed from Salna Thana in Sunamganj. She was the second among four sisters and one brother.
