A Dhaka court has rejected the bail application of BNP-backed general secretary candidate Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal in a case filed over a scuffle regarding vote counting in the recent Supreme Court Bar Association election.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Morshed Alam passed the order on Monday.

Kazal's lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukder confirmed the matter.

Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder, Advocate Md Asaduzzaman, Advocate Kayser Kamal, Advocate Mohsin Mia and Advocate Omar Faruk Faruki stood for Kazal.

The bail was opposed by the state. After hearing both sides, the court rejected his bail plea.

During the hearing, Kazal’s lawyers argued there is nothing but Ruhul Quddus Kazal's name in the FIR, and they want his bail on any condition.

On March 9, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Kazal in connection with the clash over the announcement of the results of the SCBA election a day before.

On 10 March, a court approved a four-day remand for Kazal. After the remand ended on 14 March, he was sent to jail.
