The High Court has denied bail to former Ekattor Television CEO Mozammel Haque Babu, in a murder case filed with Badda Police Station in the capital in connection with the anti-discrimination student movement.
A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher delivered the order on Tuesday, rejecting the rule issued over his bail.
Earlier, a High Court bench of Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja had issued a rule asking why Babu, who is currently in jail, should not be granted bail. The rule was issued on April 27 following a hearing on his bail petition.
It is worth noting that following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, 2024 during the mass uprising, Shyamal Dutta was stopped by immigration police while attempting to travel to India with his family via Akhaura in Brahmanbaria. Mozammel Babu had been in hiding since the government’s fall.
On September 16 the same year, both Shyamal Dutta and Mozammel Babu were arrested while allegedly trying to cross into India illegally through the border area of Dhobaura upazila in Mymensingh. They have remained in custody since then and were later shown arrested in multiple cases and taken on remand for questioning.
