The treatment of Jessore Jubo Dal leader Aminur in the hospital was brought to the attention of the High Court by BNP lawyers on Wednesday.

Former Attorney General AJ Mohammad Ali raised the issue before the High Court bench headed by Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam.

During the proceedings, he said: “The accused has been put in shackles. How is that acceptable to put someone in shackles? They are brought to the hospital in shackles. Why should this happen in a free country?”

In response, the High Court mentioned that such matters have already been settled, referring to Article 54. Despite that, such incidents continue to occur.

AJ Mohammad Ali emphasized the need to find a solution to this issue and questioned: "Are we third-class citizens?"

The High Court advised him to file a writ petition, stating that they would not issue arbitrary orders.

Aminur Rahman faced four cases under the Special Powers Act, filed by the police at Jessore’s Kotwali police station after the BNP's general meeting in Dhaka on October 28.

On November 2, Aminur was arrested from Ahmedabad College in Sadar upazila and subsequently sent to Jessore Central Jail.

Later, when he suffered a heart attack in prison, he was initially admitted to the Coronary Care Unit of Jessore General Hospital and later to the National Heart Institute in Dhaka when his condition worsened.

During the 13 days of his treatment, his shackles were not removed even while eating. Relatives complained that they were not allowed to meet the patient properly.
