Shohoz Limited has filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the validity of the decision to impose a fine of Tk2 lakh based on the complaint of Dhaka University (DU) student Mohiuddin Roni.

Barrister Tanjibul Alam filed the writ petition on behalf of Shohoz.com in the relevant division of the High Court on Tuesday, reports Bangla Tribune.

On Monday, Mohiuddin Roni, who was demonstrating against the alleged mismanagement in the railway system, called off protests after a meeting with Railway Minister Humayun Kabir and Director General of Bangladesh Railways Dhirendra Nath Mazumder.

During the four-hour meeting, Roni was assured that his six-point demands would be met.

According to sources, on June 13, Mohiuddin Roni booked four tickets of the Rajshahi-bound Silk City Express.

He booked the ticket at 8:36am. However, Roni completed his payment of Tk2,680 through bKash at 9:37am.

Roni started a sit-in and a public mass signature campaign in front of the ticket counter of Kamalapur Railway Station on July 7. On July 9, policemen barred his sit-in program.

In the complaint filed with DNCRP on July 14, Roni mentioned that he did not get the tickets even after paying for them online and later went to the counter to find out that his tickets had been sold to someone else.

He further alleged that his money was deducted from bKash without any prompt or password.

Later, Shohoz submitted a reply to the DNCRP against the complaint filed by Roni.

On July 20, DNCRP called a hearing over the complaint and the authority fined Shohoz Tk2 lakh over its negligence in service to customers.

According to Shohoz’s response, Roni failed to pay the ticket on time and it became available for sale as per the rules.

Shohoz claimed it was not at fault in the incident and was aggrieved with the DNCRP verdict. As a result, the company would soon seek justice in the High Court.
