Bangladesh Railway will introduce a new pair of commuter trains on the Dhaka-Gopalganj-Dhaka route from August 10, following a long-standing demand from local residents.
According to an order issued on Tuesday by the Office of the Chief Operating Superintendent (Western Zone) of Bangladesh Railway, trains 135 and 136, named Abhijatri Commuter, will operate six days a week, with Saturdays as the weekly off day.
The train will depart Dhaka at 3:30pm and arrive in Gopalganj at 6:45pm. After a 30-minute halt, it will leave Gopalganj at 7:15pm and reach Dhaka at 10:25pm.
The eight-coach train will stop at Keraniganj, Srinagar, Mawa, Shibchar, Bhanga Junction, Nagarkanda, Maheshpur and Kashiani Junction, among other stations, in both directions.
Bangladesh Railway has fixed the distance between Dhaka and Gopalganj at 290 kilometers. Rake berthing, watering and cleaning will be carried out in Dhaka.
The train will have a total seating capacity of 609, with each coach accommodating between 52 and 97 passengers.
The service will offer Shovon and Metro-type Shovon Chair seating.
Bangladesh Railway said the service will use the rake currently assigned to the Joydebpur Commuter. The relevant divisions have been instructed to complete all necessary preparations, including ticket sales, locomotive and crew deployment, rake maintenance and security arrangements.
