10 special Eid trains to ease holiday travel rush

Railway officials said additional measures are also being taken to improve station management and passenger services to ensure a smoother Eid journey

Bangladesh Railway has announced the operation of 10 special trains to manage the increased passenger pressure ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. The special services will begin operating on different routes from Sunday as part of the railway’s Eid travel plan.

According to railway authorities, the trains will run on routes including Chandpur, Dewanganj, Kishoreganj and Parbatipur to reduce overcrowding on regular intercity services during the Eid holidays.

Chandpur Eid Special-1 and 2 will operate on the Chittagong–Chandpur route from May 25 until the day before Eid. After Eid, the trains will run again from May 30 to June 1. One train will leave Chittagong at 3:30pm and arrive in Chandpur at 8:20pm, while the return service will depart Chandpur at 4am and reach Chittagong at 8:50am.

Teesta Eid Special-3 and 4 will run on the Dhaka–Dewanganj route during the same period. The train will leave Dhaka at 9:30am and arrive in Dewanganj at 4:10pm. The return service will depart Dewanganj at 4:30pm and reach Dhaka at 10:20pm.

Two Sholakia special trains will operate only on Eid day for passengers travelling to Kishoreganj. One train on the Bhairab Bazar–Kishoreganj route will leave at 6am and arrive at 8am. The return train will depart Kishoreganj at 12pm and reach Bhairab Bazar at 2pm.

Another special train, Sholakia Eid Special-7, will run from Mymensingh to Kishoreganj on Eid day. It will leave Mymensingh at 5:45am and arrive in Kishoreganj at 8:30am. The return service will leave Kishoreganj at 12pm and reach Mymensingh at 3pm.

For northern region passengers, Parbatipur Eid Special-9 and 10 will operate on the Joydebpur–Parbatipur route from May 24 to 26 before Eid. The train will leave Joydebpur at 7pm and arrive in Parbatipur late at night. The return service will depart Parbatipur in the morning and reach Joydebpur in the afternoon.

After Eid, the schedule for the route will change. The train will then leave Joydebpur at 8:15am and arrive in Parbatipur at 2:50pm, while the return service will depart Parbatipur at 10:20pm and reach Joydebpur the following morning.
