The High Court has directed the Civil Aviation Authority and Foreign Secretary to take necessary measures to hand over foreign-returnees to the law enforcement agencies to keep them in quarantine to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
A High Court bench of Justice Mojibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohiuddin Shamim came up with the order on Thursday after hearing a writ filed by Supreme Court Lawyer Eunus Ali Akand on March 15.
The court instructed the Home Secretary and law enforcement agencies to take necessary measures for keeping all the overseas-returnees in compulsory 14-day quarantine, reports UNB.
It also ordered the Public Administration Ministry to ask the deputy commissioners to strictly monitor the foreign-returnees so that they follow the home quarantine instructions.
The court also asked the Health Secretary for taking measures for the medical checkup of the returnees and providing proper treatment to the coronavirus suspected patients.
Bangladesh has confirmed the detection of 17 coronavirus patients and one death.
