He was suspended over charges of amassing illegal wealth

Update : 30 Jun 2019, 03:00 PM

Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mizanur Rahman has filed an anticipatory bail petition with the High Court.

He was suspended on June 26, a day after being prosecuted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for amassing illegal wealth.

Advocate Kurshid Alam Khan on Sunday said he has received a copy of this anticipatory bail petition.

The petition may be heard in the High Court bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman, the lawyer said.

However, state lawyer for another bench, Deputy Attorney General AKM Aminuddin Manik said: “We have received a notice from the attorney general’s office where it says the hearing of DIG Mizan’s bail petition may be held. But later, we were notified that another petition was filed with the High Court bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman.

“According to the High Court rules, no one can file petitions with two benches. Filing a petition with two benches can be considered as a fraudulent act.”
