The High Court on Monday directed the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court to hear bail petitions in nine cases filed against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in connection with the 28 October incidents and dispose of those cases.
The High Court bench, consisting of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Abdullah issued this order.
On December 14, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir filed a writ seeking guidance to address the bail petition in ten cases filed at the Ramna police station and Paltan police station.
Out of the 10 cases, seven cases were filed with the Paltan police station and three cases with the Ramna police station.
Currently, these cases are awaiting resolution in the CMM court in Dhaka.
Earlier on December 7, the High Court rejected the bail petition of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and issued a rule asking the government to explain why he should not be granted bail.
On December 3, Fakhrul filed the bail petition with the High Court through his lawyers, saying that he was not involved in the vandalism of the chief justice's residence in any manner.
On November 22, the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court rejected the bail petition of the BNP secretary general in the same case.
On October 29, police filed a case with Ramna police station on charges of vandalism and attack on the chief justice's residence during a BNP rally on October 28.
Apart from Mirza Fakhrul, 59 leaders and activists, including BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, were accused in the case.
The BNP secretary general was arrested in the case on October 29. Later, a bail petition was filed with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka.
The court sent him to jail rejecting his bail petition.
