BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday filed a petition in a Dhaka court seeking bail in a case filed over an attack on the chief justice’s residence amid violent clashes with the police during the party’s Naya Paltan rally on October 28.

His lawyer filed the petition at the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka.

However, the court has yet to set a date for holding a hearing on it.

Earlier on Sunday, a Dhaka court ordered Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to be sent to jail, rejecting his bail plea in the case.

The Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police detained Fakhrul at his home in Gulshan on Sunday morning and took him to their office for interrogation.

He was shown arrested in the case filed at Ramna Police Station almost nine hours after his detention.
