The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has submitted a charge sheet in court, seeking the death penalty for Sirajaddaula—the now-suspended principal of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa—and 15 others accused of murdering Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The charge sheet was submitted to the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Zakir Hossain, around 2:30pm Wednesday.
Zakir Hossain said: "The court has set tomorrow [Thursday] for the hearing of the case. Soon after, it will be transferred to be processed under the Women and Children Prevention Repression Act."
Earlier, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, Banaj Kumar Majumder, stated at a press briefing on Tuesday that the charge sheet would be filed on Wednesday.

“All the 16 accused are already in our custody," he said. “It has been primarily proven that eight people who are named in the FIR, and eight others, were found to be involved in the murder. We will seek the death penalty for them.”
Police has completed their investigation and confirmed that the 16 accused were directly or indirectly involved in the murder. Of them, 12 accused made a confessional statement before the court.
The 16 accused are: Sirajuddaula, 57; Nur Uddin, 20; Shahdat Hossain Shamim, 20; Maksud Alam alias Moksud councilor, 50; Saifur Rahman Mohammad Jobayer, 21; Jabed Hossain alias Sakhwat Hossain Jaber, 19; Hafez Abdul Kader, 25; Afsar Uddin, 33; Kamrun Nahar Moni, 19; Umme Sultana Popy alias Tuhin alias Shampa alias Champa, 19; Abdur Rahim Sharif, 20; Eftekhar Uddin Rana, 22; Imran Hossain alias Mamun, 22; Mohammad Shamim, 20; Ruhul Amin, 55; and Mohiuddin Shakil, 20.

According to the police, they have gathered information from 92 witnesses, among whom seven have given their statements before the court.
Nusrat was set on fire on the rooftop of a Cyclone Centre on her madrasa premises on April 6, by some of Sirajaddaula's followers, after she refused to withdraw sexual harassment charges she had filed against him on March 27.
After she was set on fire, her family filed another case against eight people, including Sirajuddaula, on April 8.
The 18-year-old girl died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 10, after five days in treatment.
Finding police negligent in the case, it was later handed over to PBI.
