Lakshmipur court sentences 5 to life imprisonment in 2 separate cases

District and Sessions Judge Dr Abul Kashem Chowdhury gave the orders in the two cases  at noon on Monday. Jotsna Akhter, a housewife, and three others of her family were given life imprisonment for strangulating her husband Md Rabbi to death at a grove in Enayetpur village of Raipur upazila on September 8, 2015. Rabbi's father Nurul Amin filed a case in this regard on the following day. Police filed the charge sheet of the case on November 25, accusing Rabbi's wife and three in-laws, namely Jainal Abedin, Rozina Akhter and Mohammad Alam. After examining witnesses and evidences, the court found the four accused guilty of the murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The convicts have to pay a fine of Tk 50,000 each and in default serve one more year in jail. In another case, a youth was given life imprisonment for raping a handicapped girl at Purbo Bangakha union of Sadar upazila in 2013. The convict – Tutul Chandra Dash – will also have to pay a fine of Tk 50,000 and in default languish one more year in jail. According to case records, Tutul violated the handicapped daughter of Shankar Chandra Dash near a pond of the village in the morning on April 14, 2013. Shankar filed a case against the rapist in the evening in this connection.
