A 45-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by rivals over a dispute involving the soil business in Dilsadpur village of Parbatinagar union in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila on Wednesday, marking the second murder in the upazila in three days.
Hearing gunshots, Khorshed Alam’s wife, Akleema Akter, rushed out of their house and found him bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest. Locals tried to take him to hospital, but he died before reaching the facility.
Khorshed leaves behind two sons and a daughter. Police said he had several cases filed against him, including murder, arms and drug-related cases, reports Bangla Tribune.
Akleema said two men, identified as Morshed and Majid, called her husband out of the house around 1:30pm. She also alleged that a man named Walid had previously threatened Khorshed over the soil business and suspected that those involved in the threats might have been behind the killing.
Akleema expressed concern for her own safety and that of other family members.
Hospital sources said Khorshed’s relatives took him to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, where he was declared dead. His body was later kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge of Lakshmipur Sadar police station Wahid Parvez said several law enforcement teams were working to identify and arrest those involved.
