The Supreme Court has ordered for the status quo to be maintained for establishments outside of the Dhaka's Hatirjheel-Begunbari project’s layout plan.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, also ordered the High Court to dispose of its previous ruling within two months.
On September 10, the High Court ordered the authorities concerned to remove all the establishments outside of the Hatirjheel-Begunbari project’s layout plan—within seven days after hearing a writ filed in the form of public interest litigation.
Additionally, the court also issued a ruling asking the authorities concerned to explain why directives would not be given to stop the construction of structures outside of the layout plan, reports UNB.
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, officer-in-charge of Hatirjheel police station and the project director were made respondents to the rule.
The writ was filed on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh after a report was published in newspapers, on August 1, about the establishment of structures outside of the layout plan in the project area.
Later, the owner of ten business entities filed a stay petition with the Supreme Court.
