A contempt of court plea has been filed with the High Court against Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman, Proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani and Treasurer Dr Kamal Uddin for not taking steps to arrange election of the DU Central Students' Union (Ducsu) in compliance with its earlier directives.

Advocate Manzill Murshid filed the petition on behalf of those who had filed a writ petition over the issue on Wednesday.

A High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Dr KM Hafizul Alam are presumed to hear the plea on Sunday (September 16), reports UNB.

On September 4, Advocate Manzill served a contempt of court notice to the DU vice-chancellor and two others asking for explanation as to why they did not take steps to hold the Ducsu election.

Earlier on January 17, the High Court asked the DU authorities to take necessary steps within the next six months to hold the Ducsu election.

Twenty-five students of DU filed a writ petition in March 2012, seeking the court’s order to compel the authorities concerned to arrange the election.
