The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started an administrative inquiry against eight officials over various allegations of abuse of power.
Of the eight, three are deputy directors, two assistant directors, and three are deputy assistant directors.
The inquiry decision was made at an internal meeting held in the commission's central office on Tuesday, and chaired by ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud.
“The commission has its own internal committee to investigate allegations of irregularities and corruption,” the chairman said.
The chairman is the head of the committee, and the other two committee members are ACC Secretary Muhammad Dilwar Bakht, and Director General (law) Md Mofizur Rahman Bhuiyan.
Iqbal said: "The officers and employees of the commission can exercise their power following the laws and regulations of the commission.
"However, if they abuse their power, then the internal anti-corruption committee will continue to take action against them," he said. "The officers must be held accountable."
The committee discussed in detail, some of the allegations brought against the officers, including corruption, irregularities, harassment of the public, and the abuse of power.
Besides Dilwar Bakht and Mofizur Rahman, Director General (admin) Md Zahir Raihan, and Director (admin and human resources) Jalal Saifur Rahman, were also present at the meeting.
