A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of income tax records of Hakimunnahar, assistant director of Islamic Arabic University, in connection with a corruption case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order on Tuesday following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain of the concerned court confirmed the matter.

ACC Deputy Assistant Director and investigating officer Md Abu Talha submitted the petition seeking the seizure of Hakimunnahar’s income tax records.

According to the petition, a case was filed against Hakimunnahar after she allegedly failed to submit her wealth statement to the ACC within the stipulated time on November 23 last year, committing a punishable offence.

The petition said Hakimunnahar is a taxpayer and investigators reviewed her income and expenditure for the 2020-21 to 2023-24 tax years during the inquiry.

The ACC said it is essential, in the interest of a proper investigation into assets allegedly inconsistent with known sources of income, to seize all relevant records and information in her income tax file, including its permanent and miscellaneous sections, from the date of opening.
