The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will award a total of 141 highest taxpayers under three categories at a ceremony on November 24, the first day of income tax week.
The three iconic cricketers have been selected for the awards under sportsman category, says an official gazette notification by Internal Resources Division of the Finance Ministry.
A total of 76 persons under individual category, 57 under company category and 8 under other categories will be awarded with tax cards.
The card holders will have the privilege to attend the state programmes and get priority in all government transports.
Besides, they as well as their family members will get preference in case of any medical urgency.
Five senior citizens, five recognised war wounded freedom fighters, three physically challenged persons, five female taxpayers, five young taxpayers, five businessmen, five salaried individuals, five doctors, five journalists, five lawyers, three engineers, three architects, three accountants, seven new taxpayers, three sportsmen, three actors/actresses, three artists (singer) and three other taxpayers will be awarded under individual category, according to the list of the highest taxpayers.
Transcom Group Chairman Latifur Rahman topped the list of senior citizen category, which also includes the name of Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
Hosne Ara Hossain is the top female taxpayer, while Nafiz Sikder is leading the list of young taxpayers.
The prominent ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist prof Pran Gopal Dutta is the highest taxpayer physician, while Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam topped the list of journalist category.
Suborna Mustafa topped the category of actress, followed by Afzal Hossain and Pijush Banerjee.
Tax cards under artists (singer) category will be awarded to Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya, Subir Nondi and Shaheen Samad.
Hakimpuri Jarda owner Hazi M Kaus Mia will receive the award as top taxpayer in businessman category and Khaza Tajmahal will be awarded as top taxpayer under salaried individual category.
Under the company taxpayers category, Standard Chartered Bank secured the top position in banking sector, Infrastructure Development Company Limited under non banking financial institution category, PHP Cold Rolling Mills under engineering category, Nestle Bangladesh Limited under food and ailed sector category, Titas Gas Company Limited under energy category and Janata Jute Mills under jute products category will receive the cards.
Leading telecom brand Grameenphone is the only company to receive tax card under telecommunication sector.
Square Textiles Limited under Spinning and Textiles category, Unilever Bangladesh Limited under pharmaceuticals and chemicals category, Media Star Limited under print and electronic media category, Bay Developments Limited under real estate category, Youngone Hi-Tech Sportswear Ind Ltd under readymade garments category, Lalmai Footwear Limited under leather category and British American Tobacco under others category will receive tax cards, as mentioned in the NBR list.
In the category of other taxpayers, Walton Micro Tech Corporation will be awarded under firm category.
The NBR will also honour a total of 517 taxpayers, including 370 highest taxpayers and 147 long time taxpayers, from district level for their contribution to the government revenue.
