Update : 30 Jul 2017, 02:31 PM
Bangladesh national All Mohammed Miaa, who is embroiled in a legal battle in Dubai, has expressed the desire to die in his homeland with his family by his side. Hospital authorities, who carried out a heart surgery on the 60-year-old, has retained his passport after he failed to pay off a Dh38,000 bill. Mohammed partially recovered but can no longer work, reports UAE-based The National. Mohammed said: “I want to die in Bangladesh with my wife and children. How can I pay them [hospital] back? I have no money and I am unemployed. “All I want is to get my passport so I can die at home.” According to the report, the father-of-two lost his hearing and collapsed at work in May. He said: “I have nothing. My friends buy me food and allow me to stay at their place because I told them I would leave soon. They are worried that I will die in the streets in this heat and with no food.” Mohammed’s visa has expired and he is no longer a legal resident in Dubai. Hisham Al Zahrani, manager of Zakat and social services at Dar Al Ber Society, is promoting his case in the hope members of the public or a generous benefactor will help to pay his medical bill. Zahrani said: “The hospital is asking for Dh38,000 to release his passport. Unless he pays this amount, he will remain trapped in the UAE – homeless, unemployed and very ill.”
