Police recovered the bodies of three women in separate incidents in Ashulia, Savar, within a span of about 24 hours.

One of the women was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband over a suspected extramarital affair, while the other two were found dead under circumstances that police are still investigating.

Ashulia police confirmed the incidents on Thursday morning.

The latest killing occurred around 7:30am in the Pallibidyut area of Ashulia Union.

According to police and local residents, housewife Akhi Akter, was allegedly hacked to death by her husband, Zahid Hasan, following a family dispute and suspicion of an extramarital affair.

Police recovered Akhi’s bloodied body from a bed at Haji Khalek’s house and detained Zahid with the help of locals.

Akhi was the daughter of Abed Ali of Ghagra Kabirajpara in Jhenaigati, Sherpur, while Zahid is the son of Taijuddin of Sitpara in Nalitabari, Sherpur.

Police said legal proceedings in the case were underway.

Hours earlier, on Wednesday night, police recovered the bloodied body of Roksana Begum, from the roof of a five-storey building under construction in the Koltasuti Morichkata area of Shimulia Union.

Roksana, the wife of Dubai expatriate Mokbul Hossain, was found dead on the roof of their under-construction building. Police suspect she was hacked to death with a sharp weapon.

Roksana and her husband, who are from South Pakulla in Kaliakair, Gazipur, had started living on the third floor of the building about two months ago.

Family members said Roksana went to the roof around Wednesday evening to check a water tank but did not return. Relatives later found her bloodied body on the roof.

Ashulia police Sub-Inspector Nur Amin, who recovered the body, said there were deep injuries to her neck caused by a sharp weapon.

Police are investigating possible motives, including extortion demands linked to the construction of the building, financial disputes and an alleged extramarital affair.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, police recovered the body of garment worker Tania Khatun from a rented house near Paglabazar in Shimulia.

Tania worked at a garment factory under the Palmal Group and lived alone in the house. Police found her body on a bed and said they found signs of injuries to her neck and possible strangulation.

Tania had been living alone since her divorce. She was the daughter of Mizanur Rahman of Bagdanga in Satkhira Sadar.

Ashulia police station Officer-in-Charge Tariqul Islam said the three bodies had been sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsies.

He said the husband was detained immediately after the morning killing, while several police teams were working to identify clues and arrest those responsible for the other two deaths.
