Three more accused in the murder case of Qatar expatriate Sifat Ullah, who was allegedly called to a house in the capital’s Madartek area and killed, have given confessional statements before a court.
Sajidul Islam Sajid was sent to jail after completing his remand.
On Friday, case investigation officer SI Golap Uddin Mahmud of Sabujbagh Police Station produced four accused, including Sajid, before the court.
Al Amin Hossain Joy, Tuhin and Yasin Hossain Sifat agreed to give confessional statements, while the IO sought to have their statements recorded and Sajid sent to jail.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Siddiq Azad recorded the statements of the three accused. The three were subsequently sent to jail along with Sajid, said SI Mominul Islam of the prosecution department.
On Monday, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Joy from Jhilpara in Shahjahanpur and Sajid from Kayetpara Balur Math. The following day, a court granted three-day remand for Sajid and Joy.
On the same day, Nafiza Sheikh Neha gave a confessional statement before the court.
Tuhin and Sifat were arrested on Thursday.
On September 6, expatriate Sifat was allegedly called out of his home and hacked to death by a group of assailants on a road near the Baraitala culvert in Madartek Adarshpara under Sabujbagh Police Station.
Sifat’s father, Zainal Abedin, filed a case with Sabujbagh Police Station last Monday, accusing seven people. Apart from Neha, Sajid and Joy, the other accused are Arafat, Tuhin, Anik and Rabbi.
According to the case statement, Sifat was in a relationship with Neha. He had returned to Bangladesh from Qatar about one and a half months earlier.
Later, Sifat learned that Neha was also in a relationship with Sajid, leading to a dispute between Sifat and Neha.
On September 6, Neha allegedly called Sajid over the issue. At around 3:15pm that day, Sifat went by motorcycle to the Baraitala culvert area in Madartek Adarshpara, where the accused allegedly attacked him.
They reportedly hacked him indiscriminately and left him injured on the road.
Locals rescued Sifat and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Sifat hailed from the Dholairpar area of Jatrabari. His father is Zainal Abedin.
