A Dhaka court has set December 7 for the submission of the supplementary investigation report in the murder case of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha.
The report was scheduled to be submitted on Tuesday, but the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is conducting the further investigation, failed to file it.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam set the new date, marking the 21st extension granted to the investigating officer to submit the supplementary report.
Rokonuzzaman, a sub-inspector of the Dhaka Metropolitan Prosecution Division, confirmed the matter.
On January 6, the then-investigating officer, Detective Branch Inspector Faisal Ahmed, submitted a charge sheet against 17 people. On January 15, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Mancha and the plaintiff in the case, filed a no-confidence petition (naraji) against the charge sheet.
The court subsequently ordered the CID to conduct a further investigation.
According to the case statement, Hadi, spokesperson for the political-cultural platform Inqilab Mancha, was shot by assailants riding a motorcycle at around 2:20pm on December 12 last year in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan police station. The attackers fled the scene.
He sustained critical gunshot injuries to his head and below his right ear. He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital.
As his condition deteriorated, Hadi was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment. He died on December 18 while undergoing treatment.
Following the shooting, Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case at Paltan police station on December 14. The case was subsequently converted into a murder case.
