A Dhaka court has set November 3 for submission of the further investigation report in the case of the killing of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha.
Sunday was the deadline for submitting the report, but the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is conducting the further investigation, failed to submit it.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam then set November 3 as the new date for submission. This is reportedly the 20th time the investigating officer has been granted an extension to submit the supplementary report.
Roknuzzaman, a sub-inspector of the Dhaka Metropolitan Prosecution Division, confirmed the matter.
Earlier, on January 6, DB Inspector Faisal Ahmed, the investigating officer, submitted a charge sheet against 17 people. On January 15, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, the complainant in the case, filed a petition expressing dissatisfaction with the charge sheet.
The court subsequently ordered the CID to conduct a further investigation.
According to the case complaint, Sharif Osman Hadi was the spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha, a political-cultural platform formed in the wake of the uprising.
On December 12 at around 2:20pm, unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle shot Hadi in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model police station and fled. He sustained bullet wounds to his head and below his right ear.
He was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Evercare Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was airlifted to Singapore on December 15 for advanced treatment. He died there on December 18 while undergoing treatment.
Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case at Paltan police station on December 14 over the shooting. The case was later converted into a murder case.
