US-Bangla to resume Dhaka-Kathmandu flights

The airline will initially operate four weekly flights on the route from September

Update : 14 Jul 2026, 01:36 PM

US-Bangla Airlines is set to resume scheduled flights on the Dhaka-Kathmandu route from September, ending an eight-year suspension of its services on the sector.

Initially, the private carrier plans to operate four flights a week using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Confirming the development, US-Bangla Airlines General Manager (Public Relations) Kamrul Islam said preparations for launching the service are in the final stage, and a formal announcement will be made soon.

The airline's return to the Dhaka-Kathmandu route after nearly eight years is expected to increase competition in air travel between Bangladesh and Nepal, as only a limited number of airlines currently operate flights on the route.

US-Bangla suspended operations on the Dhaka-Kathmandu route after the crash of Flight BS-211 at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on March 12, 2018.

The Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 aircraft, operating from Dhaka, crashed while attempting to land in what is considered one of the deadliest aviation accidents in Bangladesh's civil aviation history.

The move to restart flights to Kathmandu is being seen as part of US-Bangla Airlines' broader strategy to expand its international network. It follows the airline's recent plans to increase its fleet and launch new international destinations, marking another significant step in its expansion strategy.
