After being stranded in Nepal for around seven hours due to a technical fault, 127 passengers returned to Dhaka on an alternative Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight early Monday.

The passengers were scheduled to return to Dhaka from Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon. However, their flight was grounded at Tribhuvan International Airport due to a technical problem.

According to Biman Bangladesh Airlines sources, flight BG-372 was scheduled to depart Kathmandu for Dhaka at 4pm on Sunday. The aircraft, carrying the passengers, left the terminal at the scheduled time but developed a technical fault shortly after heading towards the runway.

The aircraft was subsequently brought back to the terminal and the passengers were asked to disembark.

After waiting for around seven hours, the passengers were brought back to Dhaka on an alternative aircraft, which landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:10am on Monday.

Babul Akhter, country manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines in Kathmandu, told reporters that the passengers were deboarded after the technical fault was detected.

“It was not possible to say exactly how long it would take to repair the aircraft. Business-class passengers were provided access to the lounge, while other passengers were provided with necessary facilities as per the rules,” he said.

Meanwhile, Biman took steps to send an alternative aircraft to Kathmandu to bring back the stranded passengers.

According to Biman’s general manager for public relations, the alternative aircraft left Dhaka for Kathmandu at around 10pm on Sunday.

It later brought all 127 passengers back to Dhaka, arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:10am on Monday.
