Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on Thursday phoned his Nepalese counterpart Shisir Khanal to convey Bangladesh's condolences and solidarity over the devastating flash floods and landslides that caused deaths and destruction in Nepal.
On behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, the foreign minister expressed his deepest condolences and profound sorrow over the tragedy, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Terming it a "terrible tragedy", Khalilur said Bangladesh's thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones.
He said no casualty involving any Bangladeshi national had so far been reported and sought the Nepalese government's support should any such unfortunate case emerge.
The foreign minister conveyed that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stands in full solidarity with the government and people of Nepal at this difficult time.
Khalilur also assured his Nepalese counterpart that Bangladesh stands ready to provide any assistance Nepal may require in dealing with the aftermath of the disaster.
The Nepalese foreign minister thanked Bangladesh for the gesture of solidarity at this difficult hour.
He said Nepalese authorities were still assessing the extent of the damage and would communicate any specific requirements to Bangladesh after completing a comprehensive assessment of the situation.
During the conversation, Khalilur also conveyed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's personal condolence message to Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
