Fact-checking body Rumor Scanner has found that the viral claim regarding the presence of US forces in Cox's Bazar is misleading propaganda.
According to their investigation, training programs of this nature have been conducted for several years under the arrangement of the US Embassy in Dhaka. Therefore, such activities are not new, and the viral claim is considered misleading.
Rumor Scanner further noted that the spread of false information related to Bangladesh has increased since last year, particularly from Indian media outlets and various social media accounts operated from India.
Additionally, their fact-checking revealed evidence that a group, both domestic and international, is systematically spreading rumors, misinformation, and disinformation about various issues concerning Bangladesh.
In April alone, Rumor Scanner identified 296 instances of misinformation circulating on the internet.
