US Embassy warns non-immigrant visa holders on financial preparedness

Misuse of taxpayer-funded benefits could lead to ineligibility for future travel, study or work in the US

Update : 07 Mar 2026, 12:28 PM

The US Embassy in Dhaka has warned non-immigrant visa holders to ensure financial preparedness during their stay in the United States. The embassy issued the message on Saturday.

In the message, the embassy said that while planning travel to the United States, visitors should ensure they have sufficient financial capability to cover their own expenses, including costs arising from travel disruptions or medical emergencies.

The embassy also noted that misuse of benefits funded by US taxpayers could lead to permanent consequences, potentially making individuals ineligible to travel, study or work in the United States in the future.

Earlier, the US Embassy cautioned travelers about receiving government-funded healthcare assistance in the US. Accepting such assistance while visiting the country for travel purposes may be considered visa misuse and could result in ineligibility for future travel to the United States.
